Like so many prairie communities, Churchbridge has very rich and cherished heritage. What sets us apart though is the way community members have worked to honour and remember our community leaders, our way of life and our history.
The Churchbridge Murals project was started in the mid-1990s by the Art and Culture Club. Today, Churchbridge is a beautiful outdoor historical art gallery, plus the War Memorial which honours all war veterans from Churchbridge and is located in the Community Centre.
The work of our local artists continues even today with the painstaking restoration of our murals. As you can imagine, 20+ years in the sun, rain and snow would have an effect on everything, and our murals are no different.
In the 2022 budget, Town Council is replacing the murals that are located around town! A rating system to choose the order in which the murals will be replaced has been implemented. Local resident, Rita Swanson will be hired to replace the murals.
On the Artesian Fresh World of Water building, you will see a mural which is a tribute to a pioneer family doctor, Dr. W.G. McKenzie, who served the district for over 50 years, during which time he delivered over 3000 babies.
So thank you to those who created and who maintain these incredible reminders of who we are and where we came from.
We are pleased to be able to offer this “tour” of the Churchbridge Murals. While you are encouraged to see the murals for yourself, please use this website for more information on each mural. Simply click on a link or image below and a corresponding page with information will open.
